Located in the historic center of Lisbon, the museum is a must see to learn Portuguese art from 1850 to today.


Located since 1911, the year of its foundation, in the convent of São Francisco da Cidade, a complex seriously damaged by the earthquake of 1755, today's National Museum of Contemporary Art - Museo do Chiado was again inaugurated in 1994, after the 1988 fire that affected the neighborhood, according to the restoration and expansion project by the French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte.
The MNAC is a must for the knowledge and enjoyment of romantic Portuguese, naturalist, modern and contemporary art and consists of fundamental works of the main artistic movements from the second half of the nineteenth century to today.
The program of exhibitions acquires great importance in the whole of the museum's activities which also includes guided tours, concerts, conferences, seminars, in concert with a pedagogical activity carried out by the educational service
