Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga

The Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga is located in Lisbon and is considered the most important art museum in Portugal as well as one of the most important in Europe [ no source ].

The museum is known as MNAA and, in Italy, as the National Museum of Ancient Art .

It is the museum in which one can better understand the development of Portuguese art from antiquity to the nineteenth century.

Founded in 1884 , the National Museum of Ancient Art is located near the Tagus River. It occupies the palace of the counts of the Algarve, dating back to the eighteenth century, and the old convent of Sant'Alberto. The convent chapel is a beautiful example of 18th century Portuguese Baroque art and architecture and is incorporated into the exhibition.

The museum's collection includes paintings , sculptures , metals , fabrics , furnishings , drawings , and other forms of decorative arts from the Middle Ages to the early nineteenth century. The collections, particularly those ranging from the fifteenth to the sixteenth century, are particularly important because they provide numerous examples of paintings and sculptures - in various Portuguese metals.
